I can’t remember the last time I bought Lancome eyeshadows but when they brought out the L’Wren Scott palette (Les Gris L’Wren) with smoky eye colors I decided it was time to see what Lancome had up their sleeves these days. In the past I’d found Lancome unexciting. There were eyeshadows I thought hit the mark but for me most were what I could find anywhere else with better quality. Has this changed my mind?
I’m on the fence about that. While I like this palette it hasn’t convinced me to go play with the rest of Lancome’s eyeshadows. The palette has 4 small colors for $42. There isn’t a shade in the palette that isn’t in every collection in town including my own drawers of eyeshadows. I like that it’s all together though and that if I want a grey toned smoky eye I can create it easily with this palette.
The four shades are a very light silver; a grey with blue undertones; a charcoal and a dark slate. There’s not a big contrast between the two grey shades though. That’s got good points and bad points. If you aren’t great at blending colors then this does the work for you. It’s easy to go from one grey to the next with minimal blending between the two to get a graduated look. But if you want to slowly build up that contrast I don’t think this is the right palette to do it.
I’m also on the fence about the quality of the product. These are a little powdery to me and don’t have a soft creaminess to them that I like in eyeshadows. It’s definitely a palette that you need to apply prior to face makeup or else you’ll be spending your time wiping off what you’ve applied once it falls. It does last well though with minimum touch up if I’m going from day to night.
Three of the shadows are lightly shimmered with the two greys also being satiny. The black is a matte shade while the silver has a little more shimmer than the greys but not fall out shimmer. The silver is useful to open up your eyes so it should be applied on the browbone and in the tearduct.I know this will get use on nights out during the holiday season but if I had to do it all over again, I’m not so sure I’d purchase this again.
